What is Organon of Medicine ?
:- Definition :
Organon of Medicine is a book written by Master Samuel Hahnemann containing the principles of homeopathy along with the critical analysis of the different other modes of treatment prevalent during his time.
Aim and Object :-
The aim and object of Hahnemann for writing Organon of Medicine was to present to the medical profession the doctrines , merits and the practical instructions for the practice of Homoeopathy in a logical and elaborate way . He also criticised the other prevailing systems of medicine and established the superiority of Homeopathy.
Title :
The title of the first edition of the book was 'Organon Der Rationallen Heilkunde' i.e. , 'Organon Of The Rational Medical Science' . But for the second edition onwards to the fifth one the title was changed to 'Organon Der Heilkunst', which means 'Organon of the Healing Art'. The title of the sixth edition was again changed to 'Organon of Medicine' (R.Hughes).
Editions of Organon of Medicine :
During his time Hahnemann published five editions of Organon . The fifth one is the most popular. The sixth edition was published long after his death (1921).
Order and arrangement :-
The book has been arranged in a very concise , concrete , but through and accurate manner in so many aphorisms.
Though each section can be explained seperately but they are closely related to each other expressing a chain of thoughts. Some of the sections are provided with footnotes which contain the explanation of the section to some extent and the name of the author , books , and journals etc. whom he quoted in support of his statements.
Importance :-
Dr. Kent says in his lectures , ' Homeopathy is applicable to every curable case but the great thing is to know how to apply this '. The study of Organon helps the physician to acquire the knowledge of homeopathy in treating the suffering humanity.
